Rolfing® Structural Integration

Is a form of bodywork developed by and named after its founder Dr. Ida P. Rolf 50 years ago that works on the connective tissue (fascia) to release, realign and balance the whole body in gravity.

What is Rolfing® Structural Integration?

Rolfing® Structural Integration strategically addresses relationships within the connective tissue network (or 'fascial system') over a series of cumulative and unique sessions to integrate your body's inner architecture™ structurally and functionally in gravity. A method of somatic re-education and manual medicine, it repositions connective, bony, and visceral tissues to permit a more effective and efficient postural pattern to emerge.

Our tissue responds to the stresses of daily life by becoming shorter, thicker or denser in the stressed muscles, which then pulls the whole body out of alignment. Rolfers work by systematically freeing up these compromised tissues which can often achieve remarkable improvements in posture and flexibility.

What are the benefits?

Rolfing does not focus on symptoms, rather on changing biomechanical patterns of movement and making lasting postural changes. Often as theses changes happen, discomfort or pain in the body is alleviated. As a result of Rolfing, people commonly report feeling physically taller, lighter and more flexible, better balanced and greater self-confidence.

Who gets Rolfed?

  • People dissatisfied with their posture, who want to improve their appearance and mobility.
  • People suffering from aches or pains in areas such as the neck, shoulders, hips, back, arms, legs etc.
  • People suffering from the effects of injuries and accidents.
  • Physically active people e.g. artists, athletes, dancers, yogis, runners, musicians who wish to improve their mobility and reduce the risk of injury.
